SSN Chemical Engineering CoE Meeting on Water Research, Carbon Capture, and Green Hydrogen Technology

Meeting with Dr.K.Satishkumar,Prof. & Head, Chemical Engineering Department regarding the Centre of Excellence

A meeting was convened  by Dr.R.Seyezhai, Prof/EEE and Mr.K.Dheepan, SSN iFound with the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department to discuss the strength and the capabilities of the department’s Centre’s of Excellence (CoE). The following CoEs were highlighted:

  1. Water Research– Led by Dr. K. Satishkumar
  2. Centre for Carbon Capture and Utilization – Led by Dr. B. Ambedkar
  3. Green Hydrogen Technology – Led by Dr. R.Anantharaj

The discussion revolved around the laboratory facilities, ongoing projects, available equipment, industry mentorship activities, consultancy projects, patents filed and granted, and training initiatives related to these CoEs.

Dr. R.Anantharaj, speaking on behalf of the Green Hydrogen Technology CoE, mentioned that five externally funded projects have been submitted, six industries are being mentored, and four patents have been filed. One of the externally funded project has been short-listed for presentation during the month of Aug.2024.

Dr. B. Ambedkar provided insights regarding the Centre for Carbon Capture and Utilization. Of the three patents filed under this CoE, two have been granted. He noted the availability of emission control testing facilities and detailed ongoing collaborations with Dalmia Cements and other cement industries in Karnataka. Dr. Ambedkar suggested that, given the existing facilities, training and collaboration activities could be extended to industries such as thermal power plants, oil and gas, petroleum, and cement industries.

Dr. K. Satishkumar, representing the Water CoE, reported that one patent has been filed, and the focus is currently on water treatment plants in industries such as L&T and other chemical sectors. He has conducted training activities for students and research scholars.
